Art collectors enjoy being surrounded by beauty: paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, or decorative objects. However, beyond providing aesthetic pleasure, each work of art offers a distinct history.
This history tells us about the artist and the circumstances in which the artwork was created. It tells us about the reactions the artwork provoked in those who saw it before us – reactions that sometimes colour our own perception of the work. This history also reveals what brings this work closer to or differentiates it from other artworks. It tells us what makes the artwork unique.
