Sir John Lavery (1856-1941), Mrs. Osler, 1929, Canada, collection privée.

History

In order to trace the history of a work of art, I search in archives as well as in printed and digital documents for any information relating to this object, its creator and the context of its creation.

Depending on the notoriety of the artist and the period of creation, these investigations can be more or less complex.

Provenance

Research can be carried out to trace the provenance and the various transactions that your collected works of art have been the subject of over time.

This investigation consists mainly of collecting documentation from catalogues, databases and archives on the losses of works of art. In some cases, I may require the support of specialists in the field.

Notices and catalogue

In order to highlight your collection, I write short notices (exhibition labels) of your works of art presenting their main characteristics and briefly recounting their history. I can also proceed to the development and writing of a catalogue of your collection, going as far as its publication if you wish.

This service can be designed as part of a partial or entire exhibition of your collection intended for a preferred audience, or quite simply for personal interest in your private setting.

Inventory

Works of art accumulate over time and under the impact of passion; for various purposes – insurance, tax, inheritance, etc. -, listing them becomes a necessity at some point.

I gather the main information concerning each art object, then I establish a digital inventory using the most appropriate model to suit your needs – from a simple spreadsheet to a more sophisticated software.
