This ground breaking exploration reconstructs Rembrandt\u2019s theories and methods, shedding new light both on the artist\u2019s exceptional accomplishments and on the theory and practice of painting in the Dutch Golden Age.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Ernst van de Wetering. <em>Rembrandt: The Painter at Work<\/em>. Amsterdam, Amsterdam University Press, 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amsterdam\u2019s Rijksmuseum commemorated the 350th anniversary of the artist\u2019s death in 2019 with the exhibition \u201cAll the Rembrandts\u201d. In tandem with this exhibition Taschen published a large format monograph on Rembrandt\u2019s drawings and etchings. Cologne, Taschen, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To satisfy your curiosity about the evolution of the discipline of art history towards a broader consideration of women artists, here are a few suggestions among many.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the founding articles of feminist expression in art history was published in 1971 in <em>ArtNews<\/em>, written by the art historian Linda Nochlin (1931-2017) under the title <em>Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists? <\/em>In an expanded and annotated edition, the eponymous work presents Nochlin&#8217;s research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Linda Nochlin. <em>Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?<\/em> London, Thames &amp; Hudson, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A graduate of University of London and a specialist in social history of art, Frances Borzello&#8217;s essay explores the whys and wherefores of female self-portraits in art, from the 16th century to the present day, and more generally the history of women artists in Western art. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-332 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/mc-bo.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/Women_s-self-portraits-web_1024x1024@2x.jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mc-bo.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/Women_s-self-portraits-web_1024x1024@2x.jpg.webp 1200w, https:\/\/mc-bo.art\/wp-content\/uploads\/Women_s-self-portraits-web_1024x1024@2x.jpg-768x768.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Frances Borzello. <em>Seeing Ourselves: Women&#8217;s Self-Portraits.<\/em>\u00a0London, Thames &amp; Hudson, 2016 (2<sup>nd<\/sup> ed.).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This catalog, published to coincide with the exhibition of the same title, presents a rich series of self-portraits by Canadian women artists, from the late 18th century to the present day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Alicia Boutilier and Tobi Bruce. <em>The artist herself: self-portraits by Canadian historical women artists. <\/em>Exh. cat.
