Summer 2025 escapes

It’s something we dream about during the grey, cold days: summer and its exotic escapes! For the time being, it’s not really the heat that will encourage you to open the museum doors, but rather the gloomy weather. But there’s plenty to discover.

  • until August 10, at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

During the summer, you can cool off while looking at graphic works – drawings and old prints – from the museum’s collection, rarely shown to the general public for conservation reasons. Under the catchy theme of sin in a feminine version, the exhibition Bad Girls only: Women and the Seven Deadly Sins explores how women became associated with sin, the role art played, and how that history shows up in our lives today.

  • until August 16, at the Musée de la Cocathédrale Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue (Longueil)

The museum, located in the basement of the church of the same name, presents a collection of some 350 sacred art objects belonging to the parish and preserved since its beginnings (late 17th century), placing them in their historical context. A “treasure trove” to behold just outside Montreal.

You can also explore our rich religious heritage and its decoration, with the many magnificent churches that adorn our villages, from Lotbinière to Ile d’Orléans and Mauricie, such as Champlain’s Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation church. Let yourself be inspired by the tranquility and beauty of these places.

  • until August 17, at the Centre culturel Marie-Fitzbac:

Several art exhibitions are on offer at this center, covering a variety of themes. A small cultural treasure trove in the region.

  • until Thanksgiving, at Manoir Mauvide-Genest

I’ll be preaching to the choir at last: come and immerse yourself in the history of New France and the richness of its interiors.
