Another look at topographical views of the new British colony in America (1760-1840)

In December, I invite you to browse through my latest scholar article, which was published in the online journal Nouvelles de l’estampe last month.

This journal was “founded in 1963 by Jean Adhémar, then director of the Cabinet des estampes at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, under the aegis of the Comité national de la gravure française. It is currently the only French academic journal on the theme of the printed image, and also publishes texts on current creation.” (https://nouvellesdelestampe.fr/)

Charles Hunt after James Pattison Cockburne, View of the Falls of Montmorency, 1835, hand-coloured aquatint, 58 x 77 cm, Montréal, BAnQ, ID 1533

The article highlights early prints depicting the Canadian landscape, preserved among the holdings of the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec.
